Twitter has changed their layout to a larger graphic on the top similar to Facebook. The new layout has been rolled out to most people by now and like it or not these large graphics are dominating social media. WHY? Because it is a fact human brains process visual information 60,000 times faster than text. If you have not been posting to your social sites with images now is the time to start. Images are a great way to tell stories and engage your audience.
Create a Powerful Header Graphic
Now the cover photo spans the entire width of the profile with the official size of 1500 x 500 pixels. This large space offers a great way to tell your brand’s story.
You might consider coming up with an image more specific than just the company’s logo. You could place your company logo in the profile pic space which is now 400 x 400 pixels, but the larger real estate should focus on your company brand at large such as what your vision is and who you serve.
Pin To The Top
The new version of Twitter profile allows you to pin your best or most important tweets to the top of your profile. So for example maybe you are tweeting about a contest or an event that you want more people to see, you can pin that tweet to the top of you stream. When someone decides to click on your profile, you can make sure you are sending your visitors where you want them to go with the perfect pin. When you want to change your pin, you simply choose a new Tweet to pin and it automatically replaces the previous one.
Images Get People To Pay Attention
As I mentioned above, images are more likely to be seen than text so adding a compelling image to any Tweet is a great strategy to be seen more often in the Twitter stream. Twitter has also added below your profile picture a catalog of your photos and videos. It is a quick snap shot to what you have shared. I encourage you to find interesting ways of including images to build your brand!
Do You Favorite Tweets?
Have you ever favorited a tweet? I’m not sure the reasons why most people do it, but my personal strategy has been to favorite a tweet by a client, or influencer that I want to stay top of mind with. It was a reminder to me that they saw and liked something I posted.
Well now Twitter has added a column of your favorites. Whatever your strategy whether you use it like other social networks “Likes” or you just want to keep a running score of people who like your stuff, it’s right top and center. And by the way, you can also check the favorites on other people’s profiles.
