Tips to marketing your business start with listening to your customers

So often we get so caught up marketing our business that we forget to listen to our customers. Social media has brought many opportunities to gain exposure for very little investment versus what traditional marketing channels offered in the past. But  so often I see people shouting their offers out onto social media platforms hoping something sticks, and sometimes it does.  But consider this, what if you were the type of business that listened and then addressed what people were really saying?

How can you stop thinking like a marketer and start to think like your customers?

As an example, you are on this email list and/or following my social sites because you want to learn how market your business online and get results.  I know what challenges most online marketers because I listen to my customers and conversations out in the the social spaces , #1 is technology, you are most overwhelmed and challenged with what technology you need and how to use it, from your website to your social media sites.

Are you wondering why people don’t respond to your blog posts, or social media posts?  Maybe it’s because you don’t ask enough questions.  Social media is SOCIAL and requires us to engage with those on the other side of the computer.  In addition to asking more questions, share photos & videos, people love photos. Take a poll, run a contest – there are all sorts of ways we can engage our audience, but it always starts with listening and finding out how you can serve them.  Finally remember to tell people why they should like or follow you – what’s in it for them?  How will they benefit by following you?
