The process of rebranding starts from within, it’s about how we want our brand to be perceived. I know this because that’s how it happened for me. I had been thinking about changing my company name and branding from GIR-Graphics & Innovative Resources for the past year because it just didn’t represent my core services anymore. My business was started in 1996 and at that time we provided a focus on design work. The business transitioned from a design and marketing firm to marketing consulting, digital marketing and social media marketing and so the name just wasn’t representative any more. In addition I wanted a brand that represented who I am personally and I wanted it to be memorable and fun, thus the name Marketing Dish was born. I added a tagline “Serving Up Solutions For Your Online Success” which is specific and uses a food metaphor which was intentional and the fun factor I wanted to bring into the business.
Many companies have rebranded over the past few years, such as JC Penney, J Crew, Pepsi, BP and many more. Check out their old logo’s and new logo’s and updates brand strategy. They are fresh, updated and simple, they have new brand images such as J Crew showing Michele Obama wearing their clothes.
If you are considering a rebrand, ask yourself the following questions and steps to implementation:
1.) Does your new brand represent your new strategy and core product messaging?
2.) Is it memorable? – does your logo and brand messaging distinguish you from your competitors?
3.) Can you involve employees? – Employees can be your best brand advocates, find ways to get them involved in spreading your new brand and messaging.
4.) Create congruency everywhere! – Be sure you change your brand images on your website, all social media sites and marketing materials. This helps you spread the word everywhere.
5.) Share your brand with stakeholders – your best brand advocates. – Tell your story to your customers, investors and those who are already loyal to you. They will help spread the word on your new brand! Rebranding is time consuming and requires an additional financial investment in your business, but the rewards and new life you inject into your business can launch you to attracting new opportunities.
