Social media marketing is in our face everyday and the fact is that this form of marketing is here to stay and growing everyday.  With that said, you still have to determine how it will benefit your business before you jump on the proverbial band wagon.  Before social media marketing can be effective,  your business should address all traditional marketing pieces such as a clear niche, target market, where is the market and how you are meeting the needs of those you serve.

Building a relationship must come first.  Your intention says it all. Are you creating a false sense of a relationship only to sell your products and services or are you developing a relationship with people who actually need access to what you are selling?   If the relationship is real, you will not need to “sell” them at all because they will naturally come to you pre-sold.  Remember I’ve talked about the know, like, trust factor?

Social media is a tool not a magic.    Social Media is only a tool and the value of a tool depends on how it is used.  As I mentioned, many people jumping on that social media bandwagon right now because it is what’s happening and everyone is doing it.  (If you have a teenager, you hear this rationale all the time!)

Social media involves selling.  Yes, selling yourself to build the relationship and selling your products or service. If you are not comfortable with the idea, perhaps you should consider some coaching as well as hiring your social media out.   As a rule of thumb every third tweet or post should be self-serving, the others should be relationship building.
